Have a look at 'MacENC' Or Passage Plus - google will find it - which uses UKHO charts. The producers of MacENC also do the cheaper GPSNavX raster chart package, though I am not sure what UK chart coverage there is for that. Unfortunately as far as I am aware, none of the various packages which give you full UK coverage for £50 to £100 (Belfield, Meridian, Memory Map etc) are available to run natively on the Mac. Bootcamp referred to by another poster allows a recent Mac to run windows and then to run Windows software - it is part of OS X so effectively free. I've not used it, but the instructions for bootcamp are in the built in help - in Finder select Help and type bootcamp.
Passage Plus Mac
Can anyone recomend a reasonabley (cheap) chart plotter and charts for use on a mac? It will only be used for passage planning and daydreaming in the office so really cannot justify a great outlay. Will require charts of UK home trade limits. Ie summer cruising distance from south coast.
I don't think it's too difficult, but you will need a copy of Windows and will have to reboot to go back to using the Mac as a Mac. There are alternatives which allow windows to run in an OS X window but I think that those which are straightforward to install cost more money (there is a freeware package but it requires compiling the code yourself.and if you don't know what that means I suggest you forget about it for now).
